One of our web designers, Matt Braddock is running 3 Marathons In 1 Month to raise money for a Motor Neurone Disease charity.

He is running the Barcelona Marathon – 25 March 2012, Vienna Marathon – 15 April 2012 and Virgin London Marathon – 22 April 2012.

If you work with a lot of different file types regularly in Photoshop, for example editing lots of company logos which are often sent in a wide variety of formats, it can be time consuming over a period of time to have to check and change a file type from Index mode to RGB mode so you can edit it properly.

If an image file is left in Index mode you are limited in how it can be edited. For example:

• It will become distorted if you try to resize it
• You cannot paste new layers on top of the image (instead they will just be merged)
• Colours cannot be added to the file
• And so on…

This year, in addition to setting up 2 annual scholarships and 2 annual awards worth £1000 for Angus College, we have started our annual DJCAD Web Design & SEO Competition.

The 2011 prize is worth more than £2500 and any undergraduate or postgraduate who finished their final course at Duncan of Jordanstone this year can apply.

The only stipulation is that applicants must be planning to start up their own business or work on a freelance basis aftter their graduation. Existing businesses or freelancers who graduated this year may apply. The prize is intended to help support a graduate launch their career as an artist rather than use it to find permanent employment. (Though we wish everyone looking for employment the best of luck).
